This week, we’re thrilled to announce that Brent Hamby has joined the rideOS family as our VP of Engineering.
Brent has a passion for maps and has been working in mapping for most of his career. Prior to rideOS, Brent was a Director of Engineering at Uber for 5+ years. Brent founded and led the "Search & Places" organization which is responsible for all aspects of location search, geospatial localization, and personalization at Uber. He also led all aspects of Places data, the creation and curation of the data, and the quality and compliance of the data. Brent was also responsible for building Uber’s “Maps Experience” organization that powers all of the user experiences related to Maps - from the driver navigation system and map rendering, to pickup and dropoff experiences. These systems represent a large number of tier one services that power the core Uber products at a massive scale.
Before Uber, Brent was the CTO at deCarta, a mapping platform company that was sold to Uber in 2015. There Brent led the developer platform and built a thriving developer ecosystem. Brent also led the development of the deCarta Navigation system and the highly performant, global L2 Places API search engine which is still heavily used in the industry.
We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Brent to the team as we continue to invest in growing our engineering team. If you’re interested in working with Brent and the rest of the folks here at rideOS, check out our open positions!
